Things to do this week: Jimmy Carr Live, Riverside Festival, Plus Leicester Market Record Fair!

Morning! Big week ahead. Jimmy Carr lands at De Montfort Hall on Thursday night with the 7pm show already sold out and the 9:30pm still available for anyone who enjoys laughing and then immediately wondering if they should have.

The weekend brings Riverside Festival back to the waterside with two days of live music, street food, arts and family activities, all completely free. Then on Sunday, the Leicester Market Record Fair takes over Green Dragon Square with thousands of vinyl records and enough crate-diggers to make finding one rare LP look like an Olympic sport.

Also this week, Celebrating Celine arrives on Friday, Patel's Millions 2 is on Saturday night, and Natural History Museum Presents Dinosaurs Live stomps into town on Sunday afternoon for anyone raising a future palaeontologist.

Jimmy Carr is at De Montfort Hall on Thursday night with his Laughs Funny tour, firing out the kind of one-liners that make you laugh first and question yourself afterwards. His last tour shifted 1.2 million tickets across 45 countries, which is a lot of people voluntarily placing themselves in the firing line.

The 7pm show has already sold out. The 9:30pm show still has tickets available, which means there's still time to spend your Thursday evening laughing at jokes you'd never repeat at work on Friday morning. Doors open at 9pm. Don't arrive early.

SCRUMPTIOUS SCOOP

☕️ - Rae's Cafe and Deli - The Matcha Crowd Already Knows About This One!
📍 - 44 Cork Street
⏰ - Tue to Wed, 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM
⏰ - Thu to Fri, 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM
⏰ - Sat, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM
⏰ - Sun, 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Rae's on Cork Street is one of those cafés that quietly steals an extra half hour from your day.

The coffee is excellent, the matcha has built a loyal following, and the treats counter has a habit of making perfectly sensible people abandon their original intentions.

There’s substance behind it too. Peri chicken ciabattas, shredded chicken pittas, cheese and jalapeño toasties, and at weekends a J&C sourdough loaded with steak, jalapeños and onions that seems to appear on far more tables than coincidence alone would suggest.

ACTIVITY ALLEY

🎪 - Riverside Festival - One Of Those Weekends Where You Keep Saying “Let’s Just Have One More Look”
📍 - City Centre Waterside
📅 - Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June
⏰ - All day
🎟️ - Free entry
📷 - @visitleicester

Riverside Festival is back for the weekend with live music, artisan street food, craft brews, arts, and family activities spread across the waterside.

It’s the biggest arts festival of the year and the type of event that starts with a quick wander round and somehow ends four hours later with food in one hand, a drink in the other, and absolutely no memory of the original plan.

Free to attend, with plenty happening across both days to keep you hanging around longer than intended.

FRESH EXPERIENCES

🎵- Leicester Market Record Fair - People Arriving For One Record And Leaving With Six
📍- Green Dragon Square
📅 - Sunday 7th June
⏰ - 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
🎟️ - Free entry
📷 - @aarecordfairs @leicestermarket

Dealers from across the UK are rolling into Leicester Market with thousands of vinyl records, rare LPs, classic albums, CDs, and music memorabilia covering pretty much every genre imaginable.

Collectors will be hunting for that one elusive record they've been after for years, while everyone else will be convincing themselves they definitely needed another album they haven't owned since 1997.

Free entry from 9am. The early birds usually get the rare stuff before the serious crate-diggers have finished their first coffee.
